Every JEE aspirant eventually asks: “What is the difference between JEE Main and JEE Advanced — and do I need both?” The answer affects your entire preparation strategy. At Champion Scholars in Chennai and Krishnagiri, we prepare students for both. Here is the complete comparison.
What is JEE Main?
JEE Main is the first stage of the IIT entrance process. It is also the gateway to NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. NTA conducts JEE Main twice a year — January and April sessions. Any student who has passed or is appearing in Class 12 can attempt it. The paper tests concepts from NCERT + standard JEE-level problems.
What is JEE Advanced?
JEE Advanced is the second stage, conducted by one of the IITs on rotation. Only the top 2.5 lakh JEE Main qualifiers are eligible to appear. JEE Advanced is the gateway exclusively to the 23 IITs in India. The difficulty level is significantly higher — questions require deep conceptual thinking and multi-step reasoning.

Preparation Strategy: Can You Crack Both?
Yes — a student targeting JEE Advanced automatically covers JEE Main, since Advanced preparation is a superset. However, do not ignore JEE Main entirely while preparing for Advanced — the exam patterns differ. At Champion Scholars, we run integrated JEE Main + Advanced batches that cover both effectively.
